Ahoy, fellow adventurers! Set sail with me as we embark on a journey into the world of cruising with a healthy mindset.

A few years back, I penned a book titled Release Your Obsession with Cheat DAZE: Heal from the Inside Out, tackling the challenge of maintaining control over our eating habits during holidays, weekends, birthdays, and, of course, vacations.

While I had never experienced a cruise myself at the time, I recently took the plunge and set sail to the Bahamas aboard the magnificent Allure by Royal Caribbean.

Now, with a history of triumph over food addiction and binge eating disorder, I was ready to face the food-filled seas with a newfound perspective.

Brace yourselves—there was food galore on that ship, like a floating buffet extravaganza! If I were still in the clutches of binge-eating, I could have easily feasted my way through the entire voyage. But, my friends, that wasn’t the case. I navigated wisely through the culinary offerings.

Picture this: an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, a cornucopia of protein, a sprinkle of starchy carbs, and oceans of water. I never felt hungry, never reached that uncomfortable, overfull sensation, and guilt was nowhere in sight. I strolled through different ship zones, turning my exercise into an enjoyable adventure with a view that could rival any tropical paradise.

This cruise wasn’t just about food; it was a full-blown floating town with something for everyone. From fine dining experiences to quick food pit stops, shore excursions, photo ops, dazzling jewelry displays, and even a casino—you name it, the Allure had it.

And let’s not forget Bingo, where I emerged victorious not once, but twice! Oh yeah, double the winnings, double the joy.

A cruise isn’t a mere food fest; it’s a kaleidoscope of live music excursions, gyms to break a sweat, walking tracks to soak in the sea breeze, and entertainment for both kiddos and adults alike. It felt more like residing in a luxurious hotel nestled within a bustling town, all while cruising the vast ocean.

Ice shows, karaoke nights, adult comedy extravaganzas, the mesmerizing aqua theater—the ship was alive with non-stop entertainment. It’s not about the food, unless you make it about the food. So, do we have to succumb to out-of-control eating during vacation celebrations? I boldly declare, “No!”

  • Pack healthy snacks like nuts, seeds, and fresh fruit for shore excursions to avoid succumbing to tempting treats.

  • Make use of onboard gyms and fitness classes, turning your cruise into an active adventure.
